Razer and game developer Richard Garriott are working in collaboration to inspire children to look beyond the stars and achieve their dreams
Carlsbad, Calif. – October 01, 2008 – Razer ™, the world’s leading manufacturer of high-end precision gaming peripherals, announced today that it is proud to be working with Richard Garriott – more popularly known by his game developing moniker “Lord British” – to support the Challenger Learning Center when his self-funded voyage launches into space.
In support of Lord British’s space mission, Razer will be dedicating a launch page on www.razerzone.com to commemorate this momentous space voyage. From the 1st to the 12th of October, 2008, well-wishers of Lord British’s voyage can visit lordbritish.razerzone.com and leave him a message of support before his mission begins on the 23rd of October. For every message posted on the site, Razer will make a donation of a quarter of a dollar to the Challenger Learning Center, to support its mission to create a scientifically literate population that can thrive in a world increasingly driven by information and technology.
Richard Garriott is known by many names, but the staff of Razer first made his acquaintance as Lord British, the father of the MMO (Massively Multiplayer Online Games) and designer of the Ultima series. Once Razer became aware of Richard’s charity work for the Challenger Learning Center and his wish to support it on his trip to space, Razer decided to work with him to help raise technological awareness amongst the children of today. Being only the sixth civilian to visit the International Space Station, Lord British has shown how one gamer has fulfilled his lifelong ambition to become an astronaut.
“I’m a big fan of Razer and have been regularly using their products while playing and developing games. I’m honoured by their plans to support my trip to space, and deeply appreciative of their donation. Together, I think we will go a long way towards heightening awareness for the Challenger Learning Center’s own admirable mission,” said Richard “Lord British” Garriott, executive producer of NCsoft and intrepid space traveller.
Together, Lord British and Razer hope that this collaboration will help inspire the children of tomorrow to reach for their dreams, no matter how lofty or seemingly far-fetched. By becoming one of the only civilians in the world to launch into outer-space, Richard has proven that through diligence, determination, and a drive to create dreams out of nothing, one can achieve and attain all of their lifelong goals.
“We are proud to support Richard’s quest into space,” said Robert “Razerguy” Krakoff, president of Razer. “It’s amazing to see how far the venerable Lord British has come from his days as one of the world’s leading game developers. By motivating our children to look into advanced technologies and stimulate their minds like Richard did, we believe that the Challenger Learning Center will be able to spur them to take their dreams to all new frontiers and innovate tomorrow’s society as we can only hope to imagine.”
To commemorate the event, Razer will randomly select three winners to receive a gift set comprised of a Razer Lachesis and a Razer Destructor, each personally autographed by Lord British. Twenty others will also be selected to each receive a Razer Moray, Razer’s newly launched in-ear noise-canceling gaming earphone.
Razer would like to wish Lord British a safe and a successful trip, and we hope that you will also at lordbritish.razerzone.com.
