SEATTLE (The International 2017) – Razer™, the leading global lifestyle brand for gamers, today celebrated Team Liquid’s Dota 2 first-place finish at The International 2017. Team Liquid, the premier esports franchise that is sponsored by Team Razer, won $10.8 million from the largest prize pool ever amassed in global esports history.
With a crowdsourced record $24.5 million prize purse, The International continues to stand as the most prestigious esports event for the fourth consecutive year. Matches were held in front of a sold-out audience for the fourth successive time at Seattle’s KeyArena. Over 4.7 million fans watched the competition unfold online on over 10 different live streams around the world.
Razer and Team Liquid share the longest running partnership in esports over six consecutive years.
“Team Liquid continues to show the world what unwavering focus, teamwork and dedication can lead to at the highest level of competitive gaming,” says Razer co-founder and CEO Min-Liang Tan. “As the only western team to have entered the world stage and then made history at The International, Team Liquid stands as trailblazers in the world of esports.”
Team Liquid began play as one of six invited professional teams before scoring 13-3 and finishing first in its group stage. The team beat similarly invited team, Virtus.Pro and qualified teams Team Empire, LGD and Team Secret on the main competition stage before advancing to the final top three. Team Liquid moved into the final three as the last remaining western team against eastern teams LGD.Forever Young and Newbee before taking the championship.
“Today was a monumental day in Team Liquid history, and like any great accomplishment it did not happen out of the blue. Our TI7 win was the fruits of many years of labor and support from our partners such as Razer,” said Team Liquid co-CEO Victor Goossens. “These partnerships have allowed us to continuously improve our roster and performance. Razer has been with us since the beginning and our work together has gotten us all the way to the massive success we saw today, their second time as partner of a TI championship-winning team.”
With this win, Team Razer further entrenches itself as the world’s leading esports brand. Team Razer also comprises of other top global teams such as SK Telecom T1 (League of Legends) and SK Gaming (CS:GO).
