WHAT:
The Asian Games 2018 in Jakarta, Indonesia, put a spotlight on esports as a legitimate global sporting event. For the first time ever, national teams of pro-gamers competed in the continental multi-sport event held every four years.
Standing tall among the national teams of China and Korea are Team Razer athletes, who showcased unprecedented teamwork and individual skill to propel their teams to the finals of the League of Legends tournament.
More than 260,000 viewers tuned in on Twitch to watch the live stream of the League of Legends finals match, where the joint effort between Team Razer’s Meiko and his teammates boosted China to clinch a gold medal victory.
WHEN:
The Asian Games 2018 was held in Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia, from 18 August to 2 September 2018. The games are recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and is one of the largest multi-sport events in the world.
The Asian Games esports demonstration event took place from 26 August to 1 September 2018, featuring six titles: Arena of Valor, Clash Royale, League of Legends, StarCraft II, Hearthstone, and Pro Evolution Soccer 2018.
WHO:
Team Razer is an elite group of esports professionals spanning 18 teams, 25 games, and 30 countries.
18 participating regions qualified for the finals of all six games.
China and Korea faced off in the grand finals of the League of Legends tournament.
